The LDPE intake tube construction offers controlled intake temperatures and the open heat shield design seals against the hood and provides several sources of outside air. Extensive testing has clearly shown that the factory fresh air intake opening has significant limitations due to the flow path and cross section. Sealed air box testing has indicated restriction increases of over 2" W.G. in every case and recent independent test results have shown NO Reduction in IAT. Significant additional restriction resulting from this closed box design and no improvement in intake temperatures will reduce the effectiveness of any intake design. When properly sealed, the factory hood works just fine as a cover and opens the box to several additional sources of lower temperature intake air.

During the Camaro event in Atlanta, R2C engineers provided Camaro SS owners with an opportunity to track test our systems against the factory intake as well as any aftermarket intake of their choice.
In back to back testing, R2C intakes consistently reduced elapsed times by an average of 3 tenths and gained 2-3 MPH. Other intake manufacturers were in attendance but declined to participate in the test sessions after witnessing the back to back performance comparisons. Keep in mind that the factory air filter efficiency is quite good. Camaro engineers understand how important quality air filtration is with regard to the prevention of unecessary wear and increased longevity. Dirt ingestion caused by poor performing air filters, and the additional impact it has contaminating engine oil, are the biggest contributors of premature engine wear.
How many Camaro owners even consider the implications of increased dirt ingestion and premature engine wear when looking for a cold air intake? How many cold air intake manufacturers stress the importance of filtration when marketing intake systems? Horsepower claims and underhood appearance are nice attributes, but they should never compromise engine protection!
Air filter efficiency of gauze and poorly designed synthetics can produce many multiples of dirt ingestion when compared to the stock air filter.
